Caridad (“Charito”) Gavino (neĆ© Santos) passed away on Monday, August 8, 2016, one week after celebrating her 70th birthday. Born in the Philippines on August 1, 1946, she was the loving daughter of Victoria and Miguel Santos and the eldest of six siblings. She attended Assumption Convent High School, and after graduating from Assumption College with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, she did some travelling around the world, visiting such places as London, the Vatican, and the United States. She worked in the banking field and it was at Merchant’s Bank that she met her husband, Joselito Gavino. They married in October 1975 and the following year, she became a mother with the birth of her daughter, Emma, and again in 1978 when her son, Joel, was born. She worked hard to secure a better future for her family and in April 1987, she was able to bring the four of them to the United States and they settled in Seattle, Washington. For over two decades she worked as a government employee, rising to the role of office manager for King County’s Mental Health Division.
She is survived by her husband, Joselito Gavino; daughter Emma and her husband RJ; son Joel and his wife Minh; and three grandchildren who were the light of her life. She also leaves behind numerous loving family and friends.
Her memorial wake/viewing will be held at Columbia Funeral Home on Monday, August 15, 2016. The funeral mass will take place on Tuesday, August 16, 10:00 am at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Seattle, Washington (10001 57th Avenue South, Seattle, WA 98178).  Cremation will take place at 3:00 pm at Columbia Funeral Home and Crematory (only for immediate family members). The date and place for the interment of her ashes are still be determined.
