Coyote Point Museum (plus a birthday party and a photo session)

It was a busy weekend for us.

On Saturday, we took advantage of the 6th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day (offering free admission to a number of museums all over the country). We went to the Coyote Point Museum because we thought that the girls would enjoy it... and they did.

Coyote Point Museum is located in San Mateo. Housed inside the museum building is a whole floor of exhibits featuring matters of science that kids could tinker with. After playing indoors, we found a shaded area at the museum's picnic area and RJ and I lunched on some tuna salad sandwiches while the girls ate pasta, apples and carrot sticks.

After lunch, we stayed outdoors to wander through all the animal exhibits and gardens. It was a beautiful day and it felt like walking through a mini wonderland of creatures - nature at its best! Among the animals we saw, there was a turkey vulture, an otter, a rattlesnake, some huge koi, as well as a few dainty butterflies fluttering about their won own butterfly garden. We even got to watch the bobcats being fed their afternoon snack.

We had a lot of fun and hope to return... probably on a cooler day. :)

Here are some photos:

On Sunday morning, we went to a friend's birthday party at Bay Aerials in South Fremont. Happy 4th Birthday Oscar! The girls had a blast! In the afternoon, we headed to Oak Meadow Park in Los Gatos for a half-hour portrait session with a professional photographer. Alexa wasn't on her best behavior, so we are just crossing our fingers and hope hoping that some of the shots taken turned out well. We'll keep you all posted. The photo proofs should be available in a couple of weeks.

We're enjoying some Indian summer - hot, sunny days. Love the sun, but not so much the heat. Though we are fortunate enough to have a portable air conditioner, the girls and I have been hanging out downstairs where it's much cooler. :)

Thanks for reading!
